Headhunter progression: stealth and precision

Headhunter is a skill progression track for a precise, stealth-oriented approach to Cyberpunk 2077. It should be read separately from the attribute and perk decisions you make when building V. The practical aim is to connect the actions you already enjoy with the track you want to develop, rather than copying a supposed farming trick without checking whether it works in your current game. This guide focuses on that repeatable decision process and avoids unverified experience multipliers.

Identify the track before spending points

Open the character progression interface and locate Headhunter. Note its present rank and the next displayed milestone. Do this before changing attributes, because a skill rank is not the same thing as an attribute point. Recording the starting value also gives you a useful baseline: after the next encounter, you can check whether the actions you chose actually moved the track you intended to train.

Build a routine around precision

The source lists headshots, throwing weapons and takedowns as relevant actions. Choose one that fits your existing equipment and confidence. A player who already aims carefully can concentrate on deliberate shots; someone who prefers approaching quietly can build encounters around takedowns. Trying every method at once makes it harder to see which habit you are practising and can turn a straightforward encounter into unnecessary experimentation.

Accuracy matters more than a dramatic plan

Start with a manageable situation where you can recognise the result of an action. A complicated chain of movements, quickhacks and attacks may be effective combat, but it is a poor diagnostic if you cannot tell what contributed to progression. After one clear sequence, compare the track with your baseline. Use that feedback to decide whether to repeat the routine or change your approach.

Read milestones in the current menu

The source describes rewards at five-rank intervals up to rank 60 and later interactions with Optical Camo. Use that as a reason to inspect the track, not as permission to assume every old reward table still matches your patch. Read the exact reward currently displayed. If it refers to equipment you do not use, decide whether that milestone actually improves your build before committing your play session to reaching it.

Treat shards as a bonus to ordinary play

Headhunter skill shards provide another source of experience. Check the description of a shard when you find one rather than identifying it only by appearance. Collecting relevant items while completing activities can support progression, but this guide does not promise a fixed shard location, drop rate or endlessly repeatable route. Those claims would require evidence beyond the source notes used here.

Keep the build comfortable

Do not replace a reliable weapon simply because an online label calls another weapon a Headhunter option. Consider aiming comfort, ammunition needs and how often you can safely perform the relevant action. The strongest training plan for your session is one you can repeat without constantly recovering from failed attempts. That is a practical preference, not a claim that one weapon has a hidden universal advantage.

Check progress after a normal play session

Compare the starting rank, actions used and ending rank. If progress is slower than expected, first check that you are looking at the same track and that the actions were completed successfully. Do not respond by spending unrelated attribute points or trusting an unexplained experience multiplier. Keep the routine that produces visible progress while supporting the way you want to play; change it when the menu and encounter results give you a clear reason.
