Restoring Godrick’s Great Rune is a separate job from winning the fight at Stormveil. The item in your inventory is only the beginning: you must reach the Divine Tower of Limgrave, restore the rune, equip it, and activate its benefit. Treating those as four separate steps makes the process much easier to check when the expected effect does not appear.

Before leaving Stormveil
First, confirm that Godrick’s Great Rune is in your inventory. This route assumes you already possess it; reaching a tower does not award the boss’s rune. Then choose a nearby Site of Grace as your starting point and identify Limgrave Tower Bridge on the map. The bridge is the useful landmark for this trip, rather than the distant tower silhouette.
If you have several unfinished objectives in the castle, give this journey its own map marker. A restoration trip has a clear endpoint, so combining it with every nearby room and enemy makes navigation harder than necessary. You can return to optional exploration afterwards.
Reach the tower through the bridge waygate
- Travel through Stormveil Castle toward Limgrave Tower Bridge.
- Continue along the bridge past the golems, keeping track of the route ahead.
- Reach the waygate and use it to cross to the tower side.
- Approach the tower entrance with Godrick’s Great Rune in your inventory.
- Enter, ride the lift, and continue to the summit.
The bridge encounter is a navigation problem as well as a combat problem. Before committing to an attack, check whether you still have space to move and whether another enemy threatens your position. A long animation can be a poor trade when your immediate objective is simply reaching the waygate.
If the approach goes wrong
Identify the specific step that failed before repeating the whole journey. Losing the route, getting caught by a golem, and arriving without the rune require different fixes. Use the nearest safe checkpoint to reorient, then repeat only the part you need to improve. Do not assume that another Divine Tower will serve the same purpose.

Restore, equip, then activate
At the summit, interact with the golden restoration point. Afterwards, visit a Site of Grace and equip the restored rune through the Great Runes option. Finally, use a Rune Arc when you want the equipped rune’s benefit to take effect. The activation lasts until death.
This order explains the most common confusion: restoring a rune does not, by itself, activate its ongoing benefit. Equipping it and using a Rune Arc are separate actions. If you have completed the tower but cannot see the expected change, check those actions individually instead of making the tower journey again.
Use Rune Arcs deliberately
Our practical recommendation is to activate the benefit for an attempt with a defined purpose. For example, first learn where a difficult enemy allows you to attack, then decide whether to spend a Rune Arc on the next attempt. This is a resource-management suggestion, not a claim that you need the item to win.
After a death, reassess before consuming another Arc. If the problem was an unfamiliar attack or a missed turn on the bridge, improving that decision may help more than immediately spending another consumable. Keep the distinction between the restored rune you own and the temporary activation in mind.
