Frontal cortex cyberware includes several tools that can support a hacking-focused character. Ex-Disk expands RAM and improves upload speed, while RAM Upgrade supports recovery. Other options address cooldowns or hostile quickhacks, including Self-Ice. The important decision is which problem you are trying to solve before committing capacity to another bonus.

Diagnose the bottleneck before comparing implants
Think about a recent encounter where hacking felt ineffective. Could you not afford the planned opening? Did you run short after several actions? Were you waiting on a different ability, or reacting to an enemy hack? Those situations may look similar in the middle of a fight, but they call for different equipment priorities.
Write down one problem and the action you expected to perform. Then check the relevant resource or condition in the current menu. This prevents a purchase driven by a general sense that the build needs “more power,” which is difficult to evaluate afterward and easy to confuse with a change in enemy difficulty.
Ex-Disk: compare the opening you want to use
Extra RAM can be valuable when your intended quickhack sequence exceeds the resources available at the start. Ex-Disk also supports upload speed, so compare both parts of its description with the sequence you want. Avoid assuming that every hacking problem comes from insufficient capacity; the opening may already be affordable.
Before buying, consider whether a different order of actions would meet the same goal. If the problem remains, compare the implant’s capacity cost with the room left in the full loadout. A useful benefit still has an opportunity cost if it displaces something that keeps the rest of the plan working.
RAM Upgrade: examine the repeated action
Recovery matters when you want to keep using quickhacks across an encounter rather than perform one demanding opening. Look at what happens after the first sequence: are you waiting for resources, choosing a fallback action, or leaving the encounter entirely? The answer helps you judge whether recovery support addresses the actual interruption.
Do not judge a recovery choice from a single short fight that ended before it could matter. Compare ordinary situations where your routine requires repeated actions. Keep the quickhack selection similar so you can see whether the equipment change affects the part of the encounter you intended to improve.

Self-Ice and other support choices
Protection against incoming quickhacks serves a different purpose from increasing your own hacking resources. Inspect Self-Ice if hostile hacking is a recurring problem, and read its current trigger and recovery conditions. Do not treat a defensive effect as a substitute for observing enemies or responding to the rest of the encounter.
For implants that support cooldowns, first identify which ability is causing the delay. Read the exact wording to confirm that the described effect applies to the action you mean to improve. Similar-sounding terms do not guarantee that two implants interact in the way a build list implies.
Make the slots work together
The frontal cortex category provides three slots, but filling all available space is not a goal by itself. Choose a primary problem, add a complementary effect if it earns its capacity cost, and leave room in the wider build for movement or other priorities you actually use.
Use current in-game descriptions for prices, tiers, and numerical effects. The source guide itself flags inconsistent figures, so a copied price table would create false precision. Compare the options offered to your character and record the old setup before changing several parts.
Common mistakes
- Confusing more RAM with faster recovery.
- Buying cooldown support without checking the ability it affects.
- Stacking bonuses before identifying the recurring problem.
- Treating an old price or stat screenshot as a current guarantee.
Choose one bottleneck, change one relevant implant, and evaluate whether your intended hacking routine becomes easier to complete.
