Which audio files does SUBSØNIC support?
The clearest supported-format list appears on both the developer’s website and the game’s Steam page. For custom music, the listed formats are MP3, FLAC, WAV, and OGG. Steam separately lists MP4 and MOV for video import.
| Media | Listed formats | What the official page says happens |
|---|---|---|
| Audio | MP3, FLAC, WAV, OGG | The track is analyzed and converted into a playable stage. |
| Video | MP4, MOV | The audio drives the stage while the video plays behind the action. |

This is a format-support list, not a promise that every file using one of those extensions will load. Codec, encryption, corruption, unusual metadata, and file-size behavior are not explained in the current public documentation. Streaming-service links are not listed as an input method.
What does the game analyze?
Komar Labs describes the process in musical terms. The official site says the game analyzes each imported track before play, finds onsets, and detects the track’s key. It then uses that analysis to time enemy spawns, synchronize bullet patterns, change arena effects, and tune the visual bloom of the player’s shots.
The Steam description adds that boss phases follow the structure of a track, naming sections such as verses, choruses, bridges, and drops. That wording comes from the developer’s product description. It should be read as the announced behavior of the Early Access build, not as a guarantee that every song will produce equally clear section detection.
Does custom music require an internet connection?
The Steam listing calls SUBSØNIC “offline-first” and says custom tracks are analyzed offline. It also states that no account or always-online connection is required. Steam Cloud is listed as a platform feature, but that is separate from local music analysis.
The public pages do not say whether imported media is copied, cached, or referenced in place. They also do not publish a privacy or retention explanation specific to imported tracks. Players who need that detail should use the developer’s contact link before importing sensitive or unreleased audio.
Platform and hardware checks before buying
Steam currently lists Windows, macOS, and Linux support. Requirements differ by operating system, so the store page is the safer place to check the live specification before purchase.
- Windows: The minimum calls for 64-bit Windows 10, a quad-core 2.4 GHz processor, 6 GB of RAM, a Vulkan 1.2-capable GPU, and 1 GB of storage.
- macOS: The minimum lists macOS 11 Big Sur, 8 GB of RAM, and Apple Silicon. Intel Macs are explicitly listed as unsupported.
- Linux: The minimum lists Ubuntu 22.04 or SteamOS 3, glibc 2.35 or newer, 6 GB of RAM, a Vulkan 1.2-capable GPU, and 1 GB of storage. The listing says the game runs on Steam Deck, but it does not display a separate Deck Verified claim in the cited requirements.
The Linux and macOS notes include a photosensitivity warning for flashing and strobing effects. The feature list says motion intensity can be adjusted, including screen shake and effects, but the official pages do not document each accessibility setting in detail.
What is included without custom files?
Importing personal media is optional. The developer says the game includes three curated packs, each ending with a dedicated boss, plus bonus tracks for free play. The Steam listing also identifies the game as single-player and lists full controller support, keyboard-and-mouse support, Steam achievements, and Steam Cloud.
What the official pages do not explain yet
As of August 5, 2026, the public documentation does not provide a numbered import walkthrough. It also leaves several practical questions open:
- maximum track or video length and file size;
- supported codecs inside MP4 and MOV containers;
- behavior with DRM-protected files or streaming downloads;
- where analysis data is stored and how to remove it;
- specific error messages and troubleshooting steps.
Those gaps matter because SUBSØNIC is currently described by the developer as an Early Access release. This guide sticks to the formats and behavior the official pages actually document rather than filling in the missing steps.
